Why Beyond is better than other CMS
Understanding the differences
Our approach to owning and managing a modern web presence is different to other vendors.
Most other systems are based on traditional web designers’ technical methods. By surrounding these technical methods with processes, they sell a web content management system that they say can be used by non-technical people.
However, what lies beneath their methods are the same old technologies and the same old skills. Most systems require several servers, including development servers, staging servers for proofing and testing, database servers and live servers. In other words it’s very technical. These types of systems require technical staff to install and maintain the system.
Content Management Systems (CMS) tend to use templates to control the adding of content. Templates are restrictive in that a user can only enter text or pictures where the template allows you to. You can have many templates, but flexibility is still limited. Who creates these templates? You guessed it, a technical person, with Web design skills. Therefore you need web skills in your IT department, or access to them. Either way, it’s another cost.
Traditional web CMS contain little or no business functionality, concentrating on just providing a method to put content onto a web site. Enterprise content management systems (ECM) are much larger, business functionality driven and expensive; having started out as document management systems or records management systems that have had content management features added to them.
Beyond is not designed by a web company. Beyond is not a wrapper around old technology. Beyond is the product of a software company. Beyond is a hosted application suite that looks, feels and operates like a web site, but the similarity ends there.
From it's inception Beyond has been designed from the user's perspective, delivering incredible power in an easy to use application.
